Haiti Empowerment Project

Haiti Benito SchoolTerri Bucci and Cheryl Canada, Ohio State Mansfield faculty members, are working with teachers in Haiti toward the goal of transforming the country’s education system. The project is tackling three primary obstacles to Haitian education: a lack of critical thinking, antiquated methods of teaching, and access to high-quality, sustained professional development. One facet of the project is a professional “coaching” model in which U.S. faculty coach Haitian higher education colleagues, who in turn coach teachers in rural schools who have not yet attained a teaching degree. Partner for Promotion

Partner for Promotion: ankle screeningThe Ohio State University College of Pharmacy formed a partnership with OSU Extension to empower pharmacists to provide innovative patient-care programs addressing topics including health literacy, diabetes, nutrition, heart disease, obesity, healthy behaviors/lifestyles, disease prevention, and access to health care services. Community pharmacists work with university partners to receive training and assistance in developing sustainable patient care programs, which strengthen their role in the health care process and provision of enhanced health care to communities. Forensics in the Classroom

Forensics in the ClassroomThis unique experiential learning program was nominated for the 2008 outreach and engagement awards. In the summer of 2007, high school students from around the country convened on the Ohio State University and Metro High School campuses for the inaugural Forensics in the Classroom summer camp, an in-depth program focusing on teaching high school students how to recover forensic evidence, how to process a crime scene, and how to present evidence in a court of law. read more -->.

Gulf Coast Rebuilding Follow-up

Do Something Great

Outreach and engagement and community service stories about Ohio State students, faculty, and staff are featured on the Do Something Great page. Stories include work in a Honduran orphanage for children with HIV, a project that helps low-income taxpayers get refunds, mentoring programs to interest girls in engineering and technology, and more.
