Supporting a 21st Century Engaged University
At Ohio State, outreach and engagement is defined as—
meaningful and mutually beneficial collaborations with partners outside the academic community. This may include partners such as those in education, business, and public and social service. Outreach and engagement is—
- That aspect of teaching that enables learning beyond the campus walls
- That aspect of research that makes what we discover useful beyond the academic community
- That aspect of service that directly benefits the public
Embedding outreach and engagement into University units is the primary focus of the Office of Outreach and Engagement. Integrating this work into the teaching, research, and service of academic and support units has made it a part of Ohio State’s culture. When we implement community partnerships and embed them into units, we enrich both our campus and the communities we serve.
Ohio State is a “community-engaged” university designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
